A MAN OF GOD
1 Samuel 9:6, “The servant said to him, behold now, there is in this city a man of God, a man held in honor; all that he says surely comes true. Now let us go there. Perhaps he can show us where we should go”.
Who is a man of God? Today, many people use this phrase to describe the fivefold [Ephesians 4:11]. But, a man of God is one whose life reflects God's presence, priorities, and power. A person whose life is devoted to serving the Lord and whose lifestyle reflects this devotion e.g. Moses, Samuel, Shemiah, Elijah, Elisha, David, Amos, Paul etc. The Scriptures described many servants in this way and it is a biblical title of respect applied to prophets, apostles and leaders and even angels.
The term ‘man of God’ appears 78 times in 72 verses of the Bible, in application to up to 13 individuals: Moses …Deuteronomy 33:1; Joshua 14:6; Psalm 90:1; Ezra 3:2; 1 Chronicles 23:14; 2 Chronicles 30:16. Moses is the only person called “man of God” in the Torah [the first 5 books of the O.T.]. Others are; the angel of the Lord who appeared to Samson's mother in Judges 13:6, 8, whom she may have taken to be a prophet …Judges 13:6, 8. The man who chastised the Priest Eli …1 Samuel 2:27; Samuel …1 Samuel 9:6, 7, 8, 10; David …Nehemiah 12:24, 36; 2 Chronicles 8:14; Shemaiah …1 Kings 12:22; 2 Chronicles 11:2. The man from Judah who cried out against King Jeroboam of Israel …1 Kings 13:1, 4, 5, 6 (twice), 7, 8, 11, 12, 14 (twice), 21, 26, 29, whose tomb King Josiah protected and preserved when he destroyed the idolatrous tombs in Bethel …2 Kings 23:16, 17; Elijah …1 Kings 17:18, 24; 2 Kings 1:9, 10, 11, 12, 13.
The 'man of God' who told King Ahab that Israel could defeat the Arameans …1 Kings 20:28, identified as Micah; Elisha in 2 Kings 4:7, 9, 16, 21, 22, 25, 27 (twice), 40, 42; 5:8, 14, 15, 20; 6:6, 9, 10, 15; 7:2, 17, 18, 19; 8:2, 4, 7, 8, 11, 19. Hanan son of Igdaliah …Jeremiah 35:4. The man who warned King Amaziah of Judah not to go to war in 2 Chronicles 25:7, 9; Timothy …1 Timothy 6:11; 2 Timothy 3:17 and many more. Study these people’s lives to see if their priorities, God’s presence and power was with them.
PRIORITIES
About two years ago, the Lord Jesus stipulated two agendas for me: first, Jesus as my JHWH Ishi and second, His purpose. This makes my life very simple and better still, complicated. Better because I just need to follow and complicated because many times, He leads me into difficulties. A ‘man of God’ is the description given to a man or woman that follows God in every way, who obeys His commands with joy, who does not live for the things of this life but for the things of eternity, who willingly serves God in giving freely of all his resources yet gladly suffers as a consequence of his faith. Perhaps Micah 6:8 sums up the man of God in one neat verse: “He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you but to do justly, and to love kindness and mercy, and to humble yourself and walk humbly with your God” …Deuteronomy 10:12, 13.
A ‘man of God’ closely observes and diligently follows, 2 Timothy 3:10-12, "Now you have closely observed and diligently followed my teaching, conduct, purpose in life, faith, patience, love, steadfastness, persecutions, sufferings. Indeed, all who delight in piety and are determined to live a devoted and godly life in Christ Jesus will be made to suffer because of their religious stand". A ‘man of God’ does not swindle or defraud his employer by turning up late for work or spending an hour on the internet during work hours; he doesn’t gossip or slander; he keeps his mind and heart pure by guarding his eyes and ears from the filth of the world; he is the spiritual leader of his family. He does everything opposite to what the world does or approves of; he goes ‘against the grain’ of society because he knows these things displease God; he considers those who are ‘disadvantaged’ or those rejected by society, those who are lonely or despairing; he is a listener to other people’s problems and does not judge.
PRESENCE
A man of God lives in the presence of the King of kings. Whatever a ‘man of God’ does and say represents He who sent him. If I must speak of the presence of God, I can only tell what His presence has done for me. In 2014, the Lord told me that I had stage four breast cancer. But what He said after changed my life forever, “No doctors, no chemotherapy, no hospital. I will heal you”. This was in my early years in the wilderness. Problems had made me so numb such that cancer was just another addition. To tell the truth, I did not panic. These were the days I saw the Lord Jesus almost now and then. His presence made every problem disappear.
In the subsequent years, the cancer got worse and it was not until 2019 I discovered that the lump had disappeared to both of my hands – they are on my right and left arms as scars. At the same time, I got throat and breast cancer again. I believed again for the Lord’s healing. In 2023, I got cervical cancer. With this, I panicked because I experienced pain and had lost a lot of weight. The Lord assured me that He would heal me again. In early 2024, He told me that I had stage four bone marrow cancer. I experience pain once in a while in my body from all the cancers but they never stand on my way from serving the Lord. I stand on the truth that He will heal me. I’m strong because of the presence of the Living God. His presence is my life.
POWER
If my healing is not by the power of the Holy Spirit, then I don’t know what is! On the 17th of September 2024 at 6.30, I had just woken up. As I lay there, I was given a vision: I kept seeing from some kind of book, "the man of God". After asking what the Spirit of God meant, He said again, "Is you". I lay on the bed as He continued to minister to me, after two weeks I was integrated into the awesome presence and power of the Trinity. We are spirits and spirits have no gender. We are spirits, some male and some female. Some good and others evil. There’s nothing as ‘a woman of God’. That’s all!
Therefore, seeks God above all else …Matthew 6:33. Being a ‘man of God’ is a position of sonship, humility, and leadership. It's a character-shaping journey that brings to light who you are in Jesus and leads to your purpose for His Kingdom. A ‘man of God’ takes the Word of God to heart; that in a few, the imminent return of Jesus for His Bride will be revealed …Revelation 7:3.
Come Lord Jesus!
