A PROPHET TO THE NATIONS – SEER’S REALM

Within the overall realm of the prophet lies the particular and distinctive realm of the Seer. Formerly in Israel, when a man went to inquire of God, he used to say, ‘Come, and let us go to the seer”; for he who is called a prophet now was formerly called a seer… 1 Samuel 9:9. The word seer describes a particular type of prophet who receives a particular type of prophetic revelation or Impartation. When it comes to prophetic revelation, a prophet is primarily an inspired hearer and then speaker while a seer is primarily visual. In other words, the prophet is the communicative dimension and the seer is the receptive dimension. Whereas nabiy’ emphasizes the active work of the prophet in speaking forth a message from God, ra’ah and chozeh focus on the experience or means by which the prophet “sees or perceives” that message.

All true seers are prophets, but not all prophets are seers. A prophet may have the particular grace to hear and proclaim the word of the Lord and yet not necessarily function as profusely in the revelatory visionary capacity as a seer does. The seer, on the other hand, may move quite remarkably in this visionary dream capacity yet not be as deep in the inspirational audible graces of hearing and speaking. Nevertheless, both move and operate in the prophetic realm, but in different capacities or dimensions. There’s adifference between a prophet and a seer: a prophet hears revelation and speaks it while a seer sees revelation.  I experience these two types of revelation. Since a seer is a receptive dimension of prophetic revelation and the prophet is the communicative dimension, how does this help explain that all true seers are prophets but not all prophets are seers? When a seer receives a prophetic revelation, how is it received?  In pictures. 

The seer is one who has understanding of the times. This person has the ability to perceive and discern the spiritual significance of a situation and can give the Lord’s perspective on a given situation. This person’s strengths are giftings of illumination and discernment, though they may or may not communicate what they see in any one set or particular manner. This kind of prophet is extremely valuable as a watchman and intercessor in the midst of the Church. The seer is made able to read the spiritual climate. He is made able to identify the prevalent motivational force. His role is to see through masks and veils of pretension, to expose man’s folly and evil, for the sake of seeing the poor and needy through. The watchman is set over men’s hearts to discern motivation, and to pray for and to call forth correction. The seer is set over men’s hearts to call them to heavenly living. The Seer is a prophet. The basic nature of his commission is observation and watchfulness. He is prone to contemplation and skilled in the art of deduction.  

The seer prophets of the Old Testament sometimes did weird things like wearing ox yokes… Jeremiah 27,28, but these were by the command of the Lord to startle the conscience of the people. Old Testament seer prophets were men of discipline, wisdom, counsel and insight, not of wild ecstasy. When you can produce a distinct sound, the church will hear you, “For if the bugle produces an indistinct sound, who will prepare himself for battle?”… I Corinthians 14:8. We desperately need oracles from God who can say what this hour means, and what we are tending to, and what God is requiring in the light of the things that point to the consummation of the age. We need men and women who can communicate the word. If a seer prophet is not distinguished by his speaking, then do not look for his credentials on the basis of his gifting or his miracles or his gift of knowledge.

There is a watching aspect to the ministry of a seer prophet. Seer prophets are people of vision, who can see what God is doing. A seer prophet not only dreams and sees visions, the seer’s anointing over his life uses the five spiritual senses – sight, sound, smell, taste and touch. The seer is a prophet to the nation’s. Choosing to speak for God is a serious business. God is not honored by spiritual mush. A prophet to the nations must be totally loyal to God and to his law. Many nations do not have a clear prophetic voice. That is a dangerous place to be. I am sure that God is calling many of his people to be ‘a prophet to the nation’. Unfortunately most are so wrapped up that they cannot offer the total loyalty that God needs for this role. Blind loyalty to the left or right is blocking the prophetic flow at the national level.

 The key role of a seer prophet to a nation is to provide guidance to rulers because they are experts on God’s law, so they can teach political authorities how to obey it, “When he takes the throne of his kingdom, he is to write for himself on a scroll a copy of this law, taken from that of the priests, who are Levites. It is to be with him, and he is to read it all the days of his life so that he may learn to revere the LORD his God and follow carefully all the words of this law and these decrees”… Deuteronomy 17:18,19. Ruling a nation can be a frightening task. Many decisions have to be made and most of them are hard, so rulers have always attempted to surround themselves with wise people. The king of Israel knew the benefit of having a seer prophet close by to help him make decisions.

The ‘Prophet to the Nation’ will teach the rulers of the nation how to implement God’s law. As prophets love the law more than others, they will have better understanding of its principles. Their wisdom will assist those who are struggling to interpret the law. Prophets will understand the principles of good government, so they will be able to provide good guidance to those in authority, “Now the king of Aram was at war with Israel. After conferring with his officers, he said, “I will set up my camp in such and such a place. The man of God sent word to the king of Israel: “Beware of passing that place, because the Arameans are going down there.” So the king of Israel checked on the place indicated by the man of God. Time and again Elisha warned the king, so that he was on his guard in such places. This enraged the king of Aram. He summoned his officers and demanded of them, “Will you not tell me which of us is on the side of the king of Israel?” “None of us, my lord the king,” said one of his officers, “but Elisha, the prophet who is in Israel, tells the king of Israel the very words you speak in your bedroom” … 2 Kings 6:8-12.

Seer prophets will give supernatural guidance to the political ruler. Because their wisdom is from God, it will be effective. At the beginning of 2023, after the Lord had put in place a government of His choice, ‘Jezebel’ could have none of it. Before the media could even catch a wind of it, the Lord told me that the Government of Kenya was under siege. Prompting me to pray, the Spirit of the Lord Jesus then told me how this battle would be won. But, it was impossible to access the ‘house on the hill’. The result of ignoring the Word of the Lord was picketing that destabilized the smooth running of the Nation and businesses. People got injured and others lost their lives. God will establish the Prophet to the Nation in his position by giving him the wisdom that the ruler needs. The King of Israel knew that Elisha was a prophet, because his words were correct. The King of Babylon trusted Daniel, because he correctly interpreted a dream that none or the Babylonian wise men understood.

This is a very important principle. Many people, including prophets, are willing to criticize their government. Prophets to the Nation are different. They begin their careers by assisting their government in tricky situations. The issue I’ve mention above would have been abated if someone cared to listen. Building the Bridges Initiative [BBI] had been forewarned in 2017, but again, I could not access the ruler of the day. The result was the waste of millions of Kenya Shillings - a waste of the government’s resources and time. There is too much protocol involved before reaching our rulers… and the people surrounding them may not discern the seriousness of the message. Ahab trusted Micah’s words, because he provided correct advice in the past… 1 Kings 22:7,8. Rulers will be glad to have seer prophets in their court, even if they hate God, because they need their advice. 

Seer prophets will give warning to the rulers of nation when they are taking the wrong direction or taking authority that God has not given them. The Old Testament seer prophets spent much of their time warning kings who had rejected God’s way and were following the way of the world. Strong seer prophets are the best protection against the power of the state. Good rulers welcome correction. The prophet Nathan challenged David when he committed adultery and murder, but remained his friend. Nathan had established his credibility with David much earlier, when the King was planning the temple… 1 Samuel 7. Every ruler needs a seer prophet like Nathan who can hear the voice of God and challenge his sins. Rulers are usually surrounded by people trying to ‘grease up’ to them. In this environment, a prophetic friend is the best protection against the occupation hazard of hubris. All rulers need a friend to speak God’s word to them. The Prophet to the Nation will pray for their government. Samuel prayed all night when his friend King Saul fell from grace… 1 Samuel 15. Every political leader needs a friend of God who will intercede for him with this intensity.  

Every seer prophet speaking at the national level must use God’s law as a standard for testing the behavior and actions of rulers and kings. To be an effective voice to their nation, these prophets must have a sound understanding of God’s law. Those called to be a prophetic voice in their nation must understand the connection between their ministry and God’s law. A prophet who is not rooted in God’s law will end up following after some fashionable secular voice. They can easily become the servant of particular political party. Without a clear standard, prophets will be blown around by every wind of change.

Some nations have a calling to be prophetic. They cannot achieve their destiny until the prophetic ministry is established in their midst. There are nations that have special gifts. For example, Kenya may have a prophetic function in the world – she is the springboard of worldwide revival culminating the return of Christ at Rapture. America is called to apostolic ministry. There is something in the American nature that initiates and plants. There is something in Kenya nature that can hold truth in. The 2022 – 2027 president of Kenya is an apostolic forerunner – the buck stops with him. Apostolic because his Presidency begun to lay a foundation that many will build on… 1 Corinthians 3:10ff. His is to reconcile the heart of the Fathers to their children and visa vise. Because we walk on foundation, it matters that there is already one  being built… whether H. E. The President of Kenya recognizes it or not. The seer’s anointing speaks counsel to royalty… king’s had seer prophets to render counsel.

When a nation has a seer like this, there is a particular blessing that falls on the people. Let's not ignore the people God dents to us.
